What is NEC 680 bonding, and why does my pool need it?

NEC 680 is the section of the National Electrical Code that governs pools, spas, and fountains. The key idea: everything conductive within five feet of the water — rebar, rails, pump housings, the water itself — must be tied to the same ground potential, so current can't travel through a swimmer to find ground. Every pool we wire includes an equipotential bonding grid.

Do I need a permit for a new hot tub circuit?

In Connecticut, yes. Any dedicated circuit over 50A and any work touching the main panel requires a permit and final inspection. We pull the permit, meet the inspector, and hand you the signed paperwork.

What does pool electrical typically cost?

It depends on scope — distance from the panel, pump and heater loads, lighting, and whether existing bonding needs correction. We give written, itemized estimates. No surprises mid-job.

What's your warranty?

Labor is warranted for two years. We are authorized warranty repair technicians for Pentair, Hayward, Jandy, Sta-Rite, Zodiac, and Fiberstars, so manufacturer warranties on that equipment are serviced through us.

Do you work with pool builders as a subcontractor?

Yes — most of our residential volume is through builder partnerships. We handle the electrical scope on your plan, coordinate with your schedule, and sign for our portion.

Can you inspect an older pool's bonding to see if it's right?

Yes. Bonding audits are one of the most common jobs we do. We trace the existing bonding with a megger and an AC voltmeter, document what we find, and give you a written report. If bonding is missing or broken, we quote the repair separately.

Do you do pool lighting as a standalone job, or only with new builds?

Both. LED niche retrofits and Fiberstars upgrades are common standalone jobs, especially on pools where the original light has failed. We also do deck and landscape lighting around the pool as a standalone scope.
